An introduction to “Beloved” Photography | Workshop

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure to go to an introduction to “Beloved” Photography, organised by my friend Florence Bavinck. Florence is the first Dutch certified “Beloved” Photographer and allthough I already knew a bit about this style of photography I never knew how it went in a real shoot and if it was something for me. Florence told us what “Beloved” was and how she and other “Beloved” photographers are using it in their photography, the tools and that it will work with anyone who gets in front of your camera. In the afternoon we got to see for ourselve when we got to see Florence work her magic with a real couple she never met before. Me and the other photographers also gave it a try and “Beloved” works! The best thing is that you can implement it in every style of photography. The most amazing thing to me was that the couple only had eyes for each other. A lot of smiles, hugs and kissing went on during the shoot, hardly once did they look into the camera. I now understand that a “Beloved” photoshoot is so much more then a regular photoshoot. You might not always see it when you look at the photos between a “Beloved” photographer and another photographer who also is good in capturing real emotions on camera, but the experience of a “Beloved” shoot is, I personally think, a gift you can give to your clients. So needless to say I will be using some of the “Beloved” technique as well in my future sessions, as I like to give gifts to my clients :) Here are some images that I took of Gesa and Hendrik during this session:

Dennis and Linda "forever and ever" | Wedding Photography

97% change of rain, even stormy weather, was predicted on all weather channels and weather websites for November first, the wedding day of Dennis and Linda. Now you have to know that I always tell all my clients that they do not have to worry about the weather, that I will make sure that we will have a blue skye, some white clouds and a sun peeking through. All my weddings I shot so far had bad weather reports days prior to the wedding, and on all weddings the blue skye, white clouds and little sun were there even if it was just long enough to do the photoshoot. But this time I was in serious doubt, I mean 97% change of rain all day long, not much change of that blue, skye and sun right?

The day started dry, but the sky turned darker the minute we came to Dennis his parents house to shoot the first photos of Dennis. When we left it started to rain a tiny bit. Off to Linda who was getting her make-up done when we arrived. When Dennis came to pick her up it was raining, but still no where near the rain that was predicted. We did the photoshoot at The JopenKerk and afterward went to “Het Kantoor”, where family and friends awaited them to have a delicious lunch.

After the ceremony when we went outside my mouth almost dropped to the floor as there was the most beautiful blue sky, white clouds and the sun peeking through them, just like I always said to my couples. The hairs on my arms stood up when I saw that. I think the rain that fell that day was maybe 15% max! I still can’t believe it.

Linda and Dennis are true high school sweethearts. 11,5 years ago they met at a disco, Linda was 16 and Dennis 18 years old. She thought he was cute and a gentleman when he gave her three kisses on the cheek when they said goodbye. The weekend after they had organised a real first date and Linda told her friends that if she would order a coke light they had to come and rescue her, needless to say she didn’t order that coke light ;).

11,5 years later, November first 2012, they said “I do” to each other in front of all their family and close friends. The day was filled with so much love and joy that Nathalie(my assistant) and I went home with a HUGE grin on our face knowing, by looking at the faces of Dennis and Linda, that they enjoyed every minute of their wedding day.

Here is their wedding day in photos:

When the sun was almost gone we quickly took a few shots more as the sky was simply amazing!
14

Their opening dance was AMAZEBALLS!! It started with boring "Let's stay together" from All Green and you could see Dennis his soccer team mates think "what the...? as they did some kind of Quickstep. But then all of the sudden "Can't touch this" from MC Hammer busted out of the speakers, followed with Beyonce's "Put a ring on it" and some amazing moves :). I just LOVED it and so did everyone else!

I think the thing that stuck with me the most is the bond of love between them and their family and their friends, true love and true happiness that filled their wedding day, very special to see.

Dennis and Linda I wish you a whole life together filled with this love and happiness, thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding day.

Coby and Lennaert | Loveshoot

OMG! This was such a fun Loveshoot! When Coby emailed me her idea for a loveshoot I got excited right away, as I already knew it was going to be so much fun! It took some searching but she found a place where she could buy the Holi Powder that they use in India during a celebration. So we met up in Amsterdam, had a drink, took some "normal" shots and then it was time to get messy! The powder was a lot thicker then we expected, maybe we had to make it more loose up front? But the fun wasn't any less because of it :)

Workshop with Wedding Photographer Fer Juaristi | Workshops

On wednesday I had the pleasure to do a workshop in Amsterdam with a super talented and well known wedding photographer from Mexico, Fer Juaristi. I love following workshops as it inspires me to always get better and try new things and this workshop was no exception! We talked all day and his energetic and fun vibe made everyone smile and laugh all day long. We did a shoot outside with a lovely couple that just got married two months ago. As I usually always go for the front light and Fer is always looking for the sidelight it was a real eye-opener for me I must say. Here are a few of my favorites that I took during this shoot. The first one is the master himself :)

The next shot I would normally not take myself as it is so dark and dramatic, but I actually like it I think:

And this last one is a random shot that I like because of all the action that is going on :)

I spend a lovely day with an awesome photographer and also many fellow photographers from Holland and Belgium, I have to say there is not much that can beat that!

Lukas | Child Photography

The little cutie that I will be sharing with you today is named Lukas. Lukas is just one year old and according to his parents Erin and Roy he is a serious but very happy baby who doesn't give smiles easily. He is an observer and likes to sit and look at things first, rather to explore them right away.

We went to 't Twiske to take their family photos. When we just had the first few done, I heard Roy say: "Hey there's a pig" . I turned around and OMG the most cutest little pig was behind me, together with it's owners and a little dog. I couldn't believe my eyes! I HAD to ask if we could use the pig for one sec for a few photos. Lucky me they said yes! And then I saw for myself Lukas the observer. He just sat there looking at that little piggie and he was sitting totally still, observing what was walking in front of him.

After the pig was gone we walked a bit further were we located a field with flowers. I had brought my vintage highchair with me and because it was very sunny that day Roy had to block the sun for me with his reflector, he did a great job, because I love how these shots turned out. Go have a look for yourself:

Loved doing this shoot and loved little Lukas who did warm up to me and gave me a few of his beautiful smiles :)

Jan and Miranda said "I do" | Wedding Photography

13 Years together. Miranda always dreamed of her wedding, Jan not so much. He told her after they got their two children Lotte and Job they would get married one day when the kids were old enough. The kids got older and Lotte even mentioned it as she saw her moms last name was not the same as the rest of them. So one day out of the blue, not romantic at all he said it was maybe time to get married. Miranda knew that that was the best proposal she would get and jumped on it right away, finally being able to plan the wedding of her dreams.

Miranda is super creative and already told me she wanted to make a lot of the details and styling herself. Their theme was hearts and the colors white and red. I was blown away how many things she made herself, the decorations, the card, the boutonnieres, the cake, the table and venue decorations, the Thank you gifts(I will post these tomorrow!), the reception album, etc, etc. It all came together on their wedding day and everyone was talking about it how much they loved it.

On the 21st of Septmeber I arrived with Nathalie(my assistant and second shooter) as Miranda was getting her hair and make-up done, as was Lotte. Miranda was so nervous and stayed this way till after the ceremony was over, after that you could see her relax and enjoy everything. Then she and Lotte got dressed(BTW I was in love with her red cowboy boots!). Not much later Jan and Jop arrived in the Rolls Royce(which they had to help try to start with Jan's car, but they only told us this much later on) it was time for the first look. I love, love, LOVE the first look so much and to see Jan get overwhelmed with emotions gave me goosebumps right then and there. Inside of Miranda's parents house everyone was waiting for them to present themselves for the first time and when they walked into the living room Miranda was the one who got overwhelmed with emotions. Everyone got into the big white bus they rented for that day and it was off to the city hall in Leiden were the ceremony took place.

The ceremony was one with a smile and laughter and not only Jan and Miranda placed the rings on each others fingers, so did Lotte and Jop. When they came outside everyone was blowing bubbles from a heart shaped bubble-maker(details people, details!). As a surprise they got to set free two pigeons. The family and friends left to go to Miranda's mothers house again to enjoy a lovely lunch and we went to Kasteel Duivenvoorde in Voorschoten to do their shoot. When we wanted to leave we heard that the Rolls Royce broke down completely and they had to wait for a new car to arrive. Not long after a white Bentley arrived and all was well again. Not much time left to grab ourselves a some bread and off we went to the Meerhoeve, the location of the diner and party.

First it was cake and bubbles and then the kids could enjoyed themselves on a big inflatable jumping "thing" that was placed outside the venue. At diner time we were ordered to put our camera's down and sit with them at their table to eat with them and their family and friends. They made us feel like we were a part of their close cirlce as well and I found this very special.

In the evening when more friends and family arrived it was time for another big surprise. Joeri Nuyten, a Maître-Sabreur came to have them slice the neck of a bottle of champagne. It took place outside, but it was pitch dark and I hoped my flash was able to focus on something. On the first try where Miranda had to hold the bottle she got scared an let the bottle drop to the ground. Luckily it wasn't broken so the second time around Jan could give it a try. He sliced it wrong and the whole bottle exploded. I was so happy when I looked back to see that I captured that exact moment.

Then it was time to party and the first dance was a family dance on "The Time of my life" from the Black eyed peas and after that it was time to PARTY!! Lots of people on the dance flour, Nathalie and I might or might have not made a few moves as well, as the music rocked!

Then it was time to say goodbye and leave the party. Nathalie and I couldn't stop talking about it on the way back about how relaxed and fun it was and how we truly enjoyed the whole day.

Sjuul Dresses | Business Photography

The people who follow me on facebook know that I have been extremely busy for the last 2 weeks due to multiple deadlines. I am so happy to say that a few of them are met and the post today is one of them.

This past summer I shot the new collection of Sjuul Feeling Good Dresses, a brand new clothing company created by Victor and Anne van Westering, brother and sister and two of the sweetest and creative persons I know. Both with backgrounds of years in the designing field they noticed that there were not enough beautiful dresses for plus size girls. So they came up with 12 gorgeous dresses that will fit any girl with size 42/44 to size 64! As I am a plus size girl myself, I always struggled to find a good dress that would cover the parts of my body that I do not feel good about, but also accentuate the parts that I do like. I now have two Sjuul Dresses and I truly LOOOOOVe them so much! I think I want all 12 though ;).

Here are some of the images I shot of the dresses:

I made a whole lookbook which you can check out, I had so much fun doing this!

But when I saw Victor and Anne struggle a bit with their new website I offered to help them as I knew the programme the website is build in very well. I totally had underestimated the time and work it was going to be, but I am happy with the result!

So today Sjuul Feeling Good Dresses is LIVE, go check it out and let me know what you think. And if you are a plus size girl like me you absolutely NEED at least one of their dresses, trust me!

PS: I shot only the photos with the model, the store photos were done by someone else.

For mom | Family Photography

I stopped photographing large groups of people this year but I sometimes make exceptions when it comes to friends or previous clients. Danielle is one of my best friends and I adore her mom Clazina. Clazina got a shoot with me for her birthday last year but due to the weather and such we were not able to do it last year so it had to happen this year. It was warm and very sunny the day of the shoot, so it is always a challenge to find spots with shade, but also to be able to dare to work in full sun. I love how this shoot went, smooth and easy, perfect!
1
Clazina is one of the sweetest persons I know and Danielle is just like her, in looks and character! Her younger brother Casper was giving some loving to his mom as well.2

And ofcourse not to forget some loving from hubby and grandkids:

Loving this first shot :)4

So much fun that it almost makes me want to regret my deciscion to not do big family/groupshoots anymore...almost ;)

In the Media | Publications

Like I told yesterday I am way behind with blogging. I have been so busy with so many things at the same time that blogging is usually last on my to do list. But I am trying to change that as off today as I have way to much to share with you :)
Todays posts is about Delis Photography being published or being featured on blogs. I am so proud and honored when magazines and/or blogs want to use the photos that I took. It always brings a huge smile on my face :)

I am starting with Wit Wedding Magazine!!! As a starting wedding photographer I am just so proud to be in this amazing magazine with the wedding of Marcia en Dirk.
1
  3

Second one is The Perfect Wedding who just launced a guide for Brides and Grooms to be, with a million tips on what to do or not to do for your wedding.
4

Wedspiration featured the loveshoot of Miranda and Jan:
7

Flair used one of my photos in a wedding blogpost:
8

I did an online interview in the middle of the night with Vinicius Matos from Escola de Imagem, the biggest online photography school in Brazille. Huge, huge honor and so much fun!
5

One of my favorite weddingdress designers is YoLancris. Risten got married in one of her dresses and when she send me the link to website of the designer I became an instant fan. I might have given a little scream when they emailed me if they could feature some photos of Risten and Roelof-Jans wedding on their blog.
9

Not too long ago I became an Ambassador for Spiderholster, a product that helped me to take the step to become a weddingphotographer. I just demonstrated the Spiderholster and my story at The Forefront to other photographers.6

I just adore The Pretty Blog. They have featured my Alice in Wonderland shoot on their blog:

And the last one were two pages in the magazine Kindje op komst:

As you can see I wasn't lying about being busy! More to come soon!

Martine, Ronald, Storm and Robin | Family Photography

Yesterday it was my sister Martine her birthday. Her birthday gift from me to her was a family shoot that we did a few weeks ago. Yesterday when I spoke to her on the phone she asked me when I would be going to blog the photos as she really wanted to share them on her Facebook page as well. As I have been waaaaaay behind with blogging I made it this morning my first priority to do this blogpost. So here my sweet sister this one is for you:
4

We met on the beach and the sun was bright as can be so we had to do a lot of backlight shots and some shots in the shade.

7
I do not see them often but I just love Storm and Robin and wished they lifed closer so I can cuddle them more. As my sister and I are both photographers we are always busy, also in the weekend. We are hardly ever in front of the lens and let alone be photographed with your own family. So this was a special occasion and we made the most of it.
5
6
2
I just love these :)

We were done on the beach and went to a restaurant to grab a bite to eat and the light in there was amazing and so was the surrounding so I had to make some extra shots:

3
I love this shoot and if you do too, leave them some lovin :)
